Okay so the choices for this month are:
Life of Pi
and
The Virgin Suicides
As I am not the dictatorial type, I'll let you all decide what you want to read, just leave your final selection in the comments. If we're all okay with choosing from one or two books per month, that works for me!
As you read, if you want to start an open thread about one particular aspect of the story you're reading (nice people give spoiler alerts), then knock yourself out. We should probably decide how we want to conclude- individual reviews, a mutual time to log-in and chat (drinking wine is required as is being barefoot (Melissa, since you don't drink you must eat hummus and wear a funny hat during book club meetings).
Aight everyone, start reading!
(I think I'll be daring and read both)

Geez, I kind of like the idea of belonging to something that was the supercoolest ever. It might totally get me over the horrifically scarring experience of being called "Mr. ____" in 6th grade. For, like, a month...until my mom called the school to ream the teacher out.
Seriously, though, perhaps we should read and/or comment on a few books before we rename ourselves, to figure out if this will have some sort of focus beyond, like, supercoolnesss.
I think it is apparent that as "The Supercoolest Bookclub Ever" we should remain named such.
Oh, and I've been looking for an excuse to read The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides.
Sarah, I've wanted to read that, too.
kristen wants to read life of pi... are she and i the only wones on this planet who still haven't read it?
We don't necessarily have to all read the same book either....
Actually, I picked up but never finished "Life of Pi," and since I loved "Middlesex," "The Virgin Suicides" has always been on my "When I Get To It" list.
I also recently picked up but have not yet started Ayun Halliday's travel memoir "No Touch Monkey." I bought it purely because of the quote from Stephen Colbert on the cover, because I'm shallow that way.
Nope, here's one more woman who has never read Life of Pi. Glad to hear I'm in good company.
Also, the name has style. It's far better than my suggestion of "My Book Club is Better Than Your Book Club. Neener Neener Neener."
Also also, Virgin Suicides. Rock on.
I haven't read "Life of Pi" either, but it's on my list. Bring it.
(Like Velma, I adored "Middlesex".)
I haven't read Life Of Pi either
Okay, melissa, I'm officially sanctioning you. no more reading unless the book club says it's okay.
Um...so we're all on the same page (ha, ha, I kill myself sometimes) I'll be reading and commenting from the male perspective since I appear to be the only testosterone fueled individual in this club - it's like the He-man Women Haters Club in reverse and way more literate.
And I'll apologize from the start if I'm not drinking a chardonnay and reading barefoot and instead sitting around in a pair of tightie-whities drinking a Schlitz. Cuz that's how I roll.
Schlitz? Ah, the beer of my youth.
I'm re-starting "Life of Pi" today.
Dub, I think Kevin (IFLYG) might have to fight you now.
I loves me some Pi. I'm all over that one. There's my vote.
I read The Virgin Suicides a few years ago, but I have not read Life of Pi.
And Schiltz? Rock on! PBR is good too!
Damn, Dub - I'm not sure how to take that! I'll try not to be too mincing and effeminate in my comments henceforth...
By the way - I'm definitely down for some Pi.
word. I'll catch up with ya'll on the discussion for this one since i've read it and gave my copy to my mother-in-law. maybe i'll pick up virgin suicides anyway in case we read it later. enjoy the pi. it'd delicious.
I had the Pi myself a few months ago courtesy of my literate neighbor. LOVED IT! Read Middlesex too.
I saw the movie, but have yet to read The Virgin Suicides. Game on!
I'll be reading Life of Pi.
And no worries Dub, ya aren't the only "testosterone fueled individual in this club" anymore. Now there are two...
God help us...
