Hi Everybody..... long time no post.
I just finished Easter Rising and can't wait 'til the discussion begins. This book hit a little close to home.... literally. The Big Dubya and I grew up just south of Boston ourselves and my parents are "right off the boat" from Ireland so, we are more than a little bit familiar with all the places and traditions mentioned in the book.
Anyway, thumbs up to whoever suggested it -- it was a really good read and I look forward to hearing what you all thought.
Maybe our next book could be a bit more upbeat though..... just a thought

I couldn't bring myself to read it. I was brought up on the North Side of Chicago, to "off the boat" Irish parents, and have experienced enough tragedy to last anyone a lifetime. I picked ER up at the store, read the jacket, and had chills running up my spine....
I'm still in the midst of reading it but I agree with one part- let's pick something a tad more 'upbeat' next time.
I'm about half way through it and I'm enjoying it so far. It is a bit of a downer but so was his first book. But they're both good reads. I'm looking forward to finishing it (you know, in my free time!).
Same here, only not quite as fresh off the boat. It is definitely a downer, but I'm enjoying it anyway.
I'm all for upbeat. Special Topics in Calamity Physics?
Yes to Special Topics for me, because I've had it for two months now and have been holding off out of my guilt at not finishing "Pi."
Unfortunately, I will be out of commission tomorrow night, thanks to some dental surgery. I'm hoping to get some good drugs and find oblivion, much as I would enjoy a little wine and book chat.
I will finish ER this weekend. While it is sad, it is goodm to see someone rise above it all.
Do we have a book for April selected yet?
Is "Special Topics" officially our book for April?
