At long last, I finally finished Special Topics in Calamity Physics
I'll stand by my last comments -- the constant references are distracting -- and the mystery started too late -- it's like the first 350 pages are filler and then all the goods are packed into the last 50.
That being said, it is a decent book -- the story at the end is worth getting to.

Well, I am certainly glad I wondered in here. I was about to start reading this book, but after your comments, I'm not so sure now. lol
Since you appear to love books as much as I do, you may want to check out my site:
BookWise - A Book Club That Pays
I got it from the library and it is here at my house and I haven't even read the first two pages.
I'm giving up on this one for now.

I SOOOOO agree with you. I was really disappointed - the references just seemed to be there to show off the author's edumacation and fill pages - and I didn't think that the story at the end was so worth it. We never do find out what happened to Teachy McWeirdo out there in the mountains. A lot of slogging for too little pay-off.
I got to about a third of the way through and have lost focus. I will try to get through it, but probably not in the near future. I'm really disappointed. I'm not that entertained by the structure and constant literary references. It's like I'm trapped inside Blue's head with her brain that just never stops talking. I'm struggling for words. I'm sure it will hit me sometime, what is it that bothers me. Just not interesting enough, I guess.
Well, not to be a nudge, but I'm off to Disney on Thursday and would love to bring the next book with me for pool-side reading....
Anyone want to pick one?
I just got one book club going on Purple Hibiscus.
I'e already read it so can promise to have something to say. If that's cool. ;)
Go check it out and see what you think.
If it doesn't look good, I can try to think of other suggestions.
Oh and...err, I just sort of Book Club crashed. I think I got the link off of Catherine's blog, and well, it's a cool group and I miss having a book club...but let me know if it's okay to be a crasher.
